N-Power | ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW - REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

N-Power | ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW - REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

N-Power | ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW - REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

The N-power program of the Federal Government of Nigeria seems to have come to stay. The program has sections for both graduates and non-graduates as well. Details of the N-power program is explained below.

WHAT IS N-Power?

First things first, N-Power is a job creation and empowerment programme of the National Social Investment Programme of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
http://www.infomaza.com/2018/02/n-power.html

The N-Power programme is for young Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 35. In 2016, through N-Power, the Federal Government engaged and deployed 200,000 young Nigerians in public primary schools, primary healthcare centres and in agriculture development project centres in all the Local Government Areas in Nigeria. This has been the largest post-tertiary engagement of human resources in Africa. This year, the N-Power Volunteer Corps is enlisting 300,000 more volunteers to bring the number to the promised 500,000 N-Power Volunteers.

BACKGROUND AND POLICY CONTEXT

Nigeria has the benefit of a young population that can catalyse a productive economy. Although current youth unemployment realities appear arduous, the scale presents an underlying opportunity. Tapping Nigeria’s youthful demographic edge through largescale and appropriate skills development improves the prospects of economic growth and social inclusion. Large-scale skills development, an imminent social and economic imperative, lies at the heart of the Federal Government’s 2017-2020 development plan- the Nigeria Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (NERGP). The NERGP identifies and prioritises the large-scale development of relevant skills for young citizens as a key driver of job creation and economic growth. By this investment through the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP), the Federal Government is playing a crucial role in bolstering the human capital of the nation’s workforce. The Federal Government’s aggressive investment in youth development also targets some of the perennial inadequacies in public services- low teacher to pupil ratio in public primary schools; high rate of preventable diseases; lack of science and knowledge to bolster agriculture production; and a lack of enough taxable persons within the tax net. In introducing N-Power, the Federal Government provides a structure not only for large scale and relevant work skills acquisition and development; but also utilising a large volunteer workforce to fix some of the problems in public services and stimulating the larger economy. In addition, N-Power is also a tool for diversifying the economy. Particularly, N-Power Agro provides not only the means to apply knowledge and science to our farming practices, but also to gather data for effective planning. With the Non-Graduate category (N-Power Knowledge and N-Power Build), young Nigerians are trained to build a knowledge economy equipped with world-class skills and certification to become relevant in the domestic and global markets. N-Power also focuses on providing our non-graduates with relevant technical and business skills that enhance their work outlook and livelihood.

GOALS

  • To intervene and directly improve the livelihood of a critical mass of young unemployed Nigerians.
  • To develop a qualitative system for the transfer of employability, entrepreneurial and technical skills.
  • To create an ecosystem of solutions for ailing public services and government diversification policies.
  • To develop and enhance Nigeria’s knowledge economy.

TWO CATEGORIES OF N-POWER

Graduate Category

  • N-Power Volunteer Corps

Non-Graduate Category

  • N-Power Knowledge

The selection of successful beneficiaries in the Non-Graduate Category from the 2016 Application was however underway. N-POWER VOLUNTEER CORPS

The N-Power Volunteer Corps is the post-tertiary engagement initiative for Nigerians between 18 and 35. It is a paid volunteering programme of a 2-year duration. All N-Power Volunteers are entitled to computing devices that will contain information necessary for their specific engagement, as well as information for their continuous training and development. In 2016, the Federal Government engaged 200,000 N-Power Volunteers. In 2017, the Federal Government is enlisting 300,000 more. The June 2017 Application is only open to the Graduate Category- the N-Power Volunteer Corps. N-Power volunteers will provide teaching, instructional, and advisory solutions in 4 key areas.
